CLIENT EXPERIENCES
Client Experiences & Clinical Outcomes
Every person’s experience with therapy and neurofeedback is different. The following de-identified examples illustrate changes reported or observed by clients receiving treatment that incorporated psychotherapy and neurofeedback at Phoenix. Identifying details have been changed or omitted to protect confidentiality. Individual results vary.
From Hyperarousal to Greater Self-Trust
One client came to treatment experiencing significant anxiety, constant scanning for threat, emotional reactivity, difficulty setting boundaries, and intense self-criticism.
Treatment incorporated psychotherapy with ILF neurofeedback, Synchrony, and Alpha-Theta training.
Over time, she described feeling more grounded, present, emotionally stable, and confident in herself. She reported that setting boundaries became easier, she recovered more quickly after conflict, and she experienced less self-criticism.
She also began noticing greater access to joy, creativity, focus, motivation, and self-compassion.
One of the most meaningful changes was not simply experiencing fewer symptoms—it was developing a different relationship with herself.
From self-criticism to self-compassion.
From reactivity to greater choice.
From surviving herself to trusting herself.
From Emotional Shutdown to Reconnection
Another client had spent years feeling emotionally numb and disconnected while struggling with depression and chronic alcohol use. She had previously participated in psychotherapy, psychiatric treatment, hospitalizations, and medication management but continued to feel disconnected from herself.
Alpha-Theta neurofeedback became part of her treatment.
As treatment progressed, she began accessing emotions and memories that had previously felt difficult to reach. Rather than continuing to avoid painful internal experiences, she developed a greater ability to remain present with them.
Her experience reinforced an important principle of trauma treatment:
Healing is not always about feeling less. Sometimes it begins when we finally feel safe enough to experience what has been there all along.
Her treatment became increasingly focused on emotional integration rather than emotional avoidance.
From Proving Worth to Trusting Worth
A third client presented with a history of attachment trauma, childhood abuse, hypervigilance, intense emotional reactions, control, and unstable relationships.
He described approaching work and relationships from a place of competition and feeling a strong need to prove his worth and earn recognition from others.
Treatment incorporated Synchrony and Alpha-Theta neurofeedback alongside therapeutic work.
Over time, he reported greater self-trust and self-respect, less need to compete with others, and an increased ability to observe situations without immediately judging or reacting.
He also described improvement in family relationships and greater confidence in his ability to participate in a healthy intimate relationship.
The shift could be described simply:
He moved from proving his worth to trusting his worth.
The change was visible not only in his symptoms, but in his relationships, work life, and understanding of himself.
What These Experiences Have in Common
Although these clients presented very differently, a common theme emerged.
Treatment was not simply about eliminating anxiety, trauma reactions, or uncomfortable emotions.
It was about increasing the person’s ability to:
- Feel safe within their own nervous system
- Recognize activation without immediately becoming consumed by it
- Recover more effectively after emotional stress
- Develop greater self-compassion
- Respond rather than automatically react
- Experience emotions without becoming overwhelmed by them
- Develop healthier boundaries and relationships
- Become more present in their own lives
At Phoenix, this is what we mean when we say:
Regulation is the gateway. Awareness is the path. Transformation is inevitable.
